sandbox rep is now 0
  • Update: we can do this more easily now. We can change the reputation grants per post type per category, both up and down, without creating a new post type. Sandbox posts would continue to use the Article post type, but would now grant whatever numbers y'all tell us to plug in.
  • Reputation from existing posts would be recalculated to use the new values (possibly after a delay). This will affect people with existing sandbox posts; I haven't looked to see who has a lot of sandbox posts, but the maximum upvotes right now on any single one is three, so with luck this wouldn't be too disruptive.
  • Please discuss and let us know what you'd like to do when you're ready. I'm happy to answer questions.

  • Resolution: at the request of a moderator based on discussion and voting here, I've just pushed this button:
  • ![Sandbox rep: up 0, down 0](https://codegolf.codidact.com/uploads/6iY4uaKybfw2KyUoBXY9ra2B)
  • As noted earlier, when the next reputation recalculation runs, people with existing sandbox posts will see their reps change.

new feature, yay!
  • We are now able to support this, if this is what the Code Golf community would like.
  • Here's how it would work. We can't currently vary properties of post types per category, like saying that Article posts in the sandbox don't grant rep but that Article posts in a hypothetical blog category do. *But* we can create a new post type and use it in the sandbox. We can either keep the voting but make the rep 0 (in both directions), or we can remove voting. I think y'all are using voting as signal and so would probably want to do the former, but I don't want to make decisions for you.
  • If you decide to do this, we would convert the existing sandbox posts. Otherwise the category would have to support both post types, and that would be confusing for people when posting. This would mean that people who've gained (or lost) reputation through the sandbox would see their reps change. Most sandbox posts have only one or two votes, so I would expect this to be minor compared to the reputation people have earned through challenges (both asking and answering).

We are now able to support this, if this is what the Code Golf community would like.

Here's how it would work.

If you decide to do this, we would convert the existing sandbox posts.

Please discuss and let us know what you'd like to do when you're ready. I'm happy to answer questions.
