Answer A: A random button for ordering Code Golf post lists
I was surprised by your post, as I don't recall any discussions about changing that, and then I wondered how to change that. I looked around in the site-level and category-level settings both here and on a community that has the "random" button, and I couldn't find anything. Then I got a "no wait...

Question Should posting on Meta affect reputation?
When we launched this community, we did not yet have the ability to set different reputation grants for different categories. We've had this for a while but we failed to follow up before now, sorry. Do you want us to change posts on Meta to not award rep for upvotes or subtract it for downvotes? ...

Answer A: Filtering the sandbox for ease of feedback
"Finalized" (or "cancelled") seems like it should be a property of the post. We can close questions -- but not articles. I think that was a change at some point, because the point of closing is to say "no more answers" and articles don't have answers to begin with, so what does it mean to close one...

Answer A: Is there a problem with the edit queues?
Addressing only the technical (platform) issues, and not community culture: We need to make pending edits more visible in two ways. As you said, you have to go to each category to see what's waiting. But an even bigger problem is that even within the same category, nothing lights up to tell you ...

Answer A: How can we grow this community?
TIO? This community uses Try It Online (TIO) a lot, as do other golfing and programming sites. TIO doesn't host ads, but is some sort of partnership with them possible? What might that look like? (I realize I'm answering a question with a question. If somebody posts a real answer about TIO I...

Question How can we grow this community?
Codidact's communities have a lot of great content that is helping people on the Internet. Our communities are small, though, and sustainable communities depend on having lots of active, engaged participants. The folks already here are doing good work; our challenge is to find more people like you ...

Question Leaderboards are live
You might have noticed that challenges now show a leaderboard in addition to the table of contents. This is something this community has wanted for a while, and now, thanks to user contributions and a lot of chatting in Discord, it's live. See this blog post, which I meant to link here more promptl...

Answer A: Should sandbox posts give rep?
Update: we can do this more easily now. We can change the reputation grants per post type per category, both up and down, without creating a new post type. Sandbox posts would continue to use the Article post type, but would now grant whatever numbers y'all tell us to plug in. Reputation from ex...

Answer A: Who should the temporary moderators be?
Please welcome your new moderators: Quintec, Chris Jester-Young, and Jo King. All three have community support and I said "at least two", so we're happy to appoint all three as temporary moderators. They've been pointed in the direction of the Secret Mod Tools (heh), which I promise to not include ...

Answer A: Sandbox-specific Tags
Another approach, suggested by ArtOfCode in chat, is to create a close reason for "graduated" sandbox posts. When defining a close reason you can require a URL (this is what's used for duplicates), so the close notice on the sandbox post would include a link to the actual challenge and people wouldn...

Question Do you want any special tag styling or requirements?
Codidact allows you to define three special types of tags: - topic tags: these are treated as ordinary tags in all respects except that they're styled differently so they stand out. You can see examples on Photography & Video with the "photography" and "video" tags. - required tags: a set of t...

Question Who should the temporary moderators be?
As we have set up communities here on the Codidact network we've been appointing temporary moderators. Ultimately, of course, we want each community to choose its own moderators; we've been doing this as a stopgap, while communities are forming, so Codidact staff don't have to handle all the flags (...

Answer A: Should we import our old policy posts?
For a small number of posts, it will be easier to create them here than to import them. Your moderators (yes we need to get some) can create new help topics, which you can link to from question posting guidance, close reasons, or anywhere else you like. By making them help topics you can organize t...

Question Welcome to Code Golf!
Welcome to the Codidact site for Code Golf (and other coding challenges)! We're glad you're here and we're excited to see what you will build. This community is starting "from scratch", without importing Q&A from other sites, so your community can set its own direction.[^1] We've set up the follow...
